THE LOBSTER BISQUE was delicious, as was the shrimp scampi, but not half as scrumptious as the lingering sweetness of Cait’s lips or the soft, gentle glow of all that exposed skin glistening in the candlelight. Jordan wanted to taste that sweet mouth again, he ached to smooth his hands over her body, not only tonight, or tomorrow, but for many more tomorrows.

Good God, he was starting to sound like a lovesick fool. If Austin had an inkling that his brother was mooning over a woman, Jordan would never hear the end of it. Considering the bad time he’d given Austin for falling for Teddy, he was certain his little brother would find the retribution far too enjoyable.

He still didn’t know how it had happened, but there was no denying he was falling hard for Cait, contradictions and all. While he wasn’t exactly ready to pick out china, neither could he deny that the possibilities with her were endless. Unanswered questions aside, he wanted her in his life. To what extent, he couldn’t be sure…yet. What he was feeling went beyond her sweet smile and the way her nose crinkled up all cute and sexy when she laughed. The way she closed her eyes and moaned when she bit into a rich, buttery piece of seafood inspired his imagination. The way she pressed against him when they kissed jump-started his libido. The way she looked at him, as if she wanted to eat him alive, drove him crazy with need.

The way she kept casting surreptitious glances at him over the candlelight made him nervous as hell.

She flirted, as she always did, but her smile wasn’t as quick and easy, and the teasing light he’d become so accustomed to in her eyes had been replaced with worry.

Something was on her mind.

He pushed the scampi through the garlic-and-herb butter on his plate and looked at her. She’d been too quiet through the appetizer. She hadn’t uttered a word when he’d served the lobster bisque. Other than the appreciative glint in her eyes when he’d set a serving of scampi and rice pilaf with fresh buttered scallops in front of her, she’d been distant throughout the meal. Even now her eyes were downcast as she stared unseeingly at the floral centerpiece, her wispy auburn bangs barely covering the frown creasing her forehead.

He set his fork on the plate. “What’s on your mind, Cait?”

Her fingers, absently stroking the stem of the wineglass, stilled. She looked up. Regret clouded her gaze.

She let out a long breath and flashed him a grin he suspected was anything but honest. “Is this part of the fantasy?” she asked abruptly.

He frowned. “What do you mean?” Caution gripped him. He might have started out creating a fantasy for her, but he had to admit that he was having serious thoughts of exchanging fantasy for reality. He wanted her, and his willpower to wait until he’d fulfilled their contract before he pursued a serious relationship with her was slowly crumbling. She’d gotten under his skin, even if he knew next to nothing about her.
